This effectively makes someone who was untrained trained, and someone trained becomes expert. To those that follow the expert they obviously get to add their level as proficiency, even when untrained, and get an extra bonus depending on the proficiency of the person they are following(+2 if expert) The description can give you more to work with and add fun color to the exploration beyond just the mechanics.
